A small folk art carving of a “Penjual Jamu” with her range in bottles in a back pack. These street vendors make & sell a range of herbal tonics called Jamu. Figure is 170mm tall. Distressed paint with vestiges of original gilding on teak body. Her right hand appears as though it would originally have carried a bag or bucket. From Solo, Central Java. Early twentieth century.
