Katy Waite is happy to carry out painting commissions in her familiar style, theme and technique
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Katy Waite graduated from Edinburgh School of Art in 1973, with a BFA in ceramics and stained glass. She won an Andrew Grant Award for a further year of study and travel during which time she researched and photographed many stained glass windows in Europe. She went on to win a National Award for her experimental stained glass work. She subsequently worked in a commercial stained glass studio in Germany where she worked on major commissions and window restoration projects.
Over the years she has worked both in the UK and New Zealand as an art teacher, potter and stained glass artist continuing to pursue exploration of mixed media art. She has completed major architectural glass commissions in both countries.

1972; Graduated Edinburgh Art School: Won Andrew Grant Award for further study.
1973; Travelled & studied; won a national architectural glass award from the Worshipful Company of Glaziers.
1973–1979; Taught art & exhibited stained glass in both Germany & Britain. Worked for Dierig Studios in Uberlingen, Germany designing for both public buildings & churches.
1979–1999;Migrated to New Zealand. Based in Auckland. Teaching at both Unitec & Michael Park School. Completed major glass commissions in this time while helping to establish the faculties that are the respected institutions they are today.
1999-2013; Lived & worked in an old gold refinery in Paeroa, northern Waikato, where she & her husband, Greg, created a cultural oasis and shop with antiques, art, craft and hand-built furniture. During this time she developed her watercolour painting – creating translucent layers reminiscent of coloured glass.
2013-2017 ; Moved closer to grandchildren in Oamaru, North Otago, where she & her husband run an antiques shop & gallery, Oasis Oamaru, where she exhibits her newest works. These are inspired by the ever-changing skies and light over the Harbour, which her South Hill studio overlooks.
